The following events are planned for Sunday in observance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks:
• Run to Remember, 7 a.m., Hernando County Family YMCA, 1300 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. This is a 5-kilometer run or 1-mile walk. There is no cost to participate. A continental breakfast will follow. A Run to Remember commemorative T-shirt is available for $5 and can be purchased at the YMCA's member service desk between now and Sunday. • 10th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony, at the 9/11 memorial site at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, Spring Hill. A memorial viewing will begin at 9 a.m., and the ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. The memorial site includes a piece of steel from the collapsed towers of the World Trade Center, a slate tile from the roof of the Pentagon, a canister of soil from the Shanksville, Pa., crash site and paving bricks with the names of every victim of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. There is also a small remembrance of the 17 U.S. sailors killed on the USS Cole off the coast of Yemen in 2000. Visitors should bring their own lawn chairs. For information, call (352) 796-0398.
• Ride to Remember memorial run, starting at the Sail Inn, 6107 Broad St., Brooksville. Registration is from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The run, escorted by the Sheriff's Office, will start at 1 p.m. and end at Bayport Inn, 4835 Cortez Blvd., Bayport, where music will be provided by country singer George Marshall. The cost to participate is $5, which will go to Lea's Prayers and Postage, a nonprofit organization that sends packages to troops serving overseas. The first 150 paid participants will receive a free commemorative T-shirt. Cars and bikes are welcome to participate.
