Cold-weather shelters opened
Hillsborough County announced plans to open cold-weather shelters Friday evening, and officials said they probably would be open through the weekend if nighttime temperatures remain low. They are available for the homeless and those in homes without adequate heat.
The shelters are:
Bethune Park Rural Shelter (South County), 5809 Edina St. in Wimauma (opens at 6 p.m., for adults and families).
Brandon Community Center, 510 E Sadie St. in Brandon (opens at 5:30 p.m. for homeless individuals and families with children in the Brandon area).
Metropolitan Ministries, 2010 N Florida Ave. in Tampa (opens at 4 p.m. for families).
Salvation Army, 1514 N Florida Ave. in Tampa, (opens at 4 p.m. for adults only).
