BRANDON

Shamrock run kicks off at new location

The Brandon Running Association will stage the 37th Annual Shamrock Classic 10K & 5K fundraiser on March 14. The races will begin and end at O'Brien's Irish Pub, 701 W Lumsden Ave. Proceeds will benefit the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Raceday registration starts at 7 a.m. with the 10K race set to begin at 8 a.m. and the 5K set for 9 a.m. Registration and race maps can be found online at: runsignup.com/Race/FL/Brandon.

Liberty school offered for spring break

Gardenville Center gets new gymnasium

The Gardenville Recreation Center, 6223 Symmes Road, celebrates the opening of a new $1.6 million gym at 2 p.m. today The 9,500-square-foot multipurpose facility includes a weight room and spring-flooring to aid basketball, pickleball, volleyball and netball games. Library group seeks nominees for award

The Friends of the Library of Tampa-Hillsborough County will accept nominations for the second annual Helen Virginia Stelle Award through March 6. The lifetime achievement award is for women who have made lasting contributions to local libraries. It's named for the first director of Tampa's first public library. The 2015 Stelle Award will be presented March 20 at the Friends of the Library's annual lunch featuring Therese Anne Fowler, author of Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. Center hosts women for interfaith service

The Franciscan Center, 3010 Perry Ave., will host the sixth annual women's interfaith prayer service for peace from noon to 1 p.m. March 6. The Firehouse Cultural Center, 101 First Ave. N, will host a "Spring Forward" writers week featuring novelist Laura Lee Smith, author of Heart of Palm, a novel featured in O magazine. County to replace Armwood fire station

Workers will build a new $2.4 million fire station at 11826 U.S. 92, replacing the current station that has been at that location for 48 years. The station is scheduled to be demolished next week. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Senior Expo features fun and information

The 26th annual Temple Terrace Senior Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on March 6 at the Family Recreation Complex, 6610 Whiteway Drive. A free continental breakfast will be available at 8 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Seniors also can dispose of old, unwanted medicines through Operation Medicine Cabinet. District revives school bus 'road-eo'

Drivers from nine school districts will compete in the School Bus Road-eo from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Hillsborough County Public Schools' Transportation Services, 9455 Harney Road. Teams will compete in three areas including an obstacle course. The top teams will receive trophies and prizes ranging from $500 to $125. First place winners will advance to a state competition in July.

Free services offered at Healthy Dog Day

Dog owners in the area can receive free veterinary examinations, rabies vaccinations and county license tags at the third annual Healthy Dog Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road in Tampa. The Hillsborough Animal Health Foundation have partnered with the county to bring assistance to needy pet owners in the following zip codes: 33614, 33615, 33625, 33626, 33634 and 33635. Dog owners should bring a driver's license or other form of ID with proof of address. Dogs must be on leashes (no retractable leashes). No services for cats will be provided at this event.
