Exploring college: More than 120 Hillsborough County public high school 10th and 11th grade students participated in the Go Advanced Placement summer residential camp at the University of South Florida last month.
Students spent a week at USF as part of the Advancement Via Individual Determination college readiness program. The camp covered topics like higher level academics, team building and leadership through group activities and panel discussions.
Football camp: The Tampa Bay Sentinels will host a three-day football camp for children ages 7 to 12, taught by Sentinels players and former NFL coaches. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon July 12-14 at Sports Center Family Fitness and Training Complex. The cost is $99. Performing arts camp: Children entering grades 3-8 can register for the KidShine performing arts camp. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16-20 at the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 West Platt Street. Activities include music, drama, dance, puppetry, playing instruments and painting.

Lacrosse camp: Jesuit High School will host a lacrosse camp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 22-27 for boys presently in grades 3-12. The camp will feature clinics covering skills that include shooting, defense and stick skills.
The camp is directed by John Matzke, Jesuit head lacrosse coach, and camp staff includes other lacrosse coaches from Jesuit, USF Lacrosse, and other high school and college coaches.
The camp will be held on the outside playing fields at Jesuit, 4701 N Himes Ave.

TV and film workshops: The Florida Academy of Performing Arts is offering commercial, television and film workshops for children ages 12 and up. Session 1, the commercial workshop, runs from 9 a.m. to noon July 30 to Aug. 3. Session 2, the television and film workshop, runs from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 13-17. Both sessions will be held at Music Showcase, 402 Oakfield Drive, Brandon.
The commercial workshop will cover topics that include auditioning, interviewing, commercial language and improvisation. The television and film workshop will cover topics that include script work, timing, pacing and multi-camera blocking.
The workshops will be taught by Joanna Moccia, an acting instructor with experience with talent agencies and casting directors.
The cost is $125 for one week-long session, or $200 for both sessions.
