Published March 8, 2016

No one was injured in a fire that engulfed a home and nearby shed on Virginia Lane in Clearwater on Tuesday, but several neighbors were evacuated as flames engulfed the two properties.

Black smoke could be seen for miles from the scene near U.S. 19 and State Road 590 and gusty winds helped spread the flames and embers, according to a news release.

More than 20 units from Clearwater, Safety Harbor, Largo, Dunedin and St. Petersburg responded to the fire around 12:30 p.m., and one Clearwater Police officer removed a dog named Beavis from a nearby home.

Investigators have not released a cause of the fire.
