Incumbent won't challenge inclusion of Pasco District 1 write-in

Schrader won't fight presence of write-in

County Commissioner Ted Schrader Monday ruled out challenging the legitimacy of a write-in candidate whose presence will block 170,000 Democrats, independents and third-party voters from voting in the District 1 commission race. If Schrader and fellow Republican John Nicolette were the only candidates running, the Aug. 26 GOP primary would have been open to all voters. But the entry last week of John M. Taylor as a write-in candidate closed that primary race. The Pasco Democratic Party is considering a challenge because it questions whether Taylor actually resides in east Pasco's District 1. Schrader said he wants to focus on issues and it is more appropriate for someone harmed by the closed primary to fight it.

Woman arrested after altercation

A 44-year-old woman was arrested Sunday night, accused of chasing her husband with a loaded shotgun and threatening to kill him, authorities said. Mary Ellen Dymock of 18024 Greensboro St. also threatened her husband's ex-wife, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. No shots were fired and no one was injured. Dymock is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and remained in the Land O'Lakes jail Monday in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Agency seeks help with endowment

Looking for a way to stretch your donation dollars? Community Aging and Retirement Services Inc., known as CARES, is looking to raise $75,000 for an endowment fund. If it meets that goal, the nonprofit Community Foundation of Tampa Bay will chip in $25,000. Then CARES will receive 5 percent of the fund's value annually to promote quality of life and independence for adults. CARES has three years to raise the money. For information, call CARES president and chief executive officer Bill Aycrigg at (727) 862-9291, ext. 226, or the Community Foundation of Pasco County at (727) 846-1921 or toll-free at 1-866-887-2726.

An article in Saturday's Pasco Times misstated the address of the home where a driver had vandalized the lawn. The correct address is 15847 Adobe Drive in Hudson.
