Inmate commits suicide in jail cell
An inmate killed himself early Thursday morning in his cell, said Kevin Doll, spokesman for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Doll said the inmate — a white 31-year-old man — tied a bedsheet to a fire alarm on the ceiling of his cell at the New Port Richey jail and hanged himself about 4:30 a.m. A deputy making a round saw the man, cut him down and a crew of people performed CPR until paramedics arrived, Doll said. The man never regained consciousness. His name has not been released because authorities are still notifying next of kin.
