LARGO

Man accused of sexually battering child

A 36-year-old Clearwater man was arrested Friday, accused of molesting a boy under the age of 12. Juan C. Gonzalez-Tejeda was charged with felony sexual battery in the incident, which happened Aug. 29, a police report said. Gonzalez-Tejeda was at a relative's home when he put the boy on a bed and attempted to assault him, police said. In an interview with a Largo police detective, he said he "snapped" and planned to rape the child, but stopped. He told the boy, who is not being identified because of his age and the nature of the crime, not to tell anyone, the report said. It's unclear when the incident was reported to police. Gonzalez-Tejeda is being held without bail in the Pinellas County Jail.

Injured boater still in critical condition

A man who suffered life-threatening injuries when his speed boat flipped Sunday morning on Lake Tarpon remains in critical condition, said a spokeswoman at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. Robert Gollobin, 65, of Port Richey was taken to the hospital by a Bayflite helicopter after the 9:30 a.m. crash. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Gollobin was piloting an 18-foot Mirage boat in the northeast section of the lake when the boat flipped and ejected him into the water. Bystanders helped pull Gollobin out of the water and took him to a nearby boat ramp, where paramedics were waiting.
