Man accused of drugging, raping teen

Police have arrested a Tarpon Springs man accused of plying a 14-year-old girl with Xanax and then raping her early Thursday morning. Timothy E. Wood, 25, faces one count of sexual battery, one count of aggravated child abuse and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly swinging a baseball bat at another man. Tarpon Springs police said Wood was an acquaintance of the girl's family. Police said he gave the 14-year-old Xanax, then had sex with her in front of several juveniles. The incident took place at 2 a.m. Thursday, according to police. The girl, who is not being named because of the nature of the allegations, was transported to Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital for an apparent overdose on Xanax. Wood was being held at the Pinellas County Jail without bail.
