Man dies after fall from golf cart
Shortly after ringing in the New Year, a Lakeland man fell off the back of a moving golf cart and died, according to police.
Plant City police said Duane Roberts, 33, was riding on the back of a street-legal modified golf cart driven by Jeremy Burris, 33, of Plant City.
Roberts fell off the cart on Bridle Drive near Horseshoe Drive in the Walden Lakes subdivision at 1:16 a.m. and died of his injuries a short time later. No citations have been issued.

People, dogs escape, but 2 cats killed in fire
Authorities are investigating a fire that killed two cats and left a home with significant damage on Saturday.
Firefighters were called to a single-family home at 5582 45th Ave. N at about 11:15 a.m., officials said.
"We do not know what started it yet," said Pinellas Park fire Lt. Gary Berkheimer. "We had fire and smoke damage throughout the house."
Three people were in the home at the time, Berkheimer said, but they, along with two dogs, escaped without injuries. The family's two cats did not survive.
Berkheimer said the family is being helped by a neighbor.

Wisconsin woman killed in truck crash
A Wisconsin woman who was in town for the equestrian show at the Florida State Fairgrounds died early Saturday when she crashed her pickup truck into a tree near Falkenburg and Palm River roads in Hillsborough County.
Allison G. Kasten, 20, of Mequon, Wis., was driving a white Ford F-150 about 5:30 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve, strayed into a median and hit the oak, according to Hillsborough sheriff's officials.
No one else was in the vehicle.
An investigation of the crash is ongoing.
