Many Pasco County government offices closed July 3

COUNTYWIDE

Most Government offices closed today for holiday

Pasco County Government offices, including the constitutional offices and the courts, will be closed today in observance of Independence Day. Each will reopen Monday.

The Pasco County parks and recreation centers also are closed today, but the parks and beaches are open to the public from dawn to dusk.

The Pasco County Animal Services administration office, adoption center, intake/reclaim shelter, 19640 Dogpatch Lane, Land O'Lakes, and its field services are closed today and will resume regular hours Saturday. On Saturday, the adoption fee will be $4 in honor of Independence Day.

An animal control officer is available today for emergencies.

All libraries in the Pasco County Library System will be open today, but closed Saturday. All will resume regular hours Tuesday.

Pasco County Public Transportation is closed today and will resume services Saturday.

The Pasco County Resource Recovery Facility, West Pasco Class III and the East Pasco Transfer Station will be closed to the general public Saturday but will be open to Pasco County-licensed commercial haulers. They will reopen to the public Monday.

TRINITY

Learn how to improve quality of your diet

Medical Center of Trinity, 9330 State Road 54, will host a 14-week program, Healthy Eating Every Day, from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, July 8 through Oct. 7, in Conference Room C.

The program, which will be presented by CARES, is designed to help people improve the quality of their diets using lifestyle management skills.

It is based on current nutrition recommendations. Registration is required. Free.

'Living Healthy' teaches management of disease

Medical Center of Trinity, 9330 State Road 54, will host a free, six-week chronic disease self-management workshop called Living Healthy for two hours once a week, beginning with at 9 a.m. Monday in Conference Room C.

Living Healthy was developed at Stanford University and is licensed in Florida through the Department of Health.

The workshop will cover techniques for coping with frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance; appropriate use of medications; communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals; nutrition; how to evaluate new treatments; and more.

Painting night to raise money for Alzheimer's

The Alzheimer's Family Organization will host a fundraiser, "Painting with a Purpose," from 7 to 10 p.m. July 15 at Painting with a Twist, 8351 State Road 54, Suite 112.

The cost is $45, which covers canvas, paint and instruction. Half of the cost will benefit the Alzheimer's Family Organization.

PHSC campuses to host open houses

Pasco-Hernando State College will host open houses at three of its campuses next week:

• 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the West Campus, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey, in R151

• 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the East Campus, 36727 Blanton Road, Dade City, in A240

• 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the North Campus, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Brooksville, in B104/105

Attendees will learn about higher education opportunities at PHSC, including the certificate, associate and bachelor degree programs it offers.

Pasco Aging Network hosts monthly meeting

The Pasco Aging Network will host its monthly meeting from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heather Hill Healthcare, 6630 Kentucky Ave.

The network is a coalition of public and private organizations and companies that provide elder services in Pasco County. Membership is open to all government organizations, nonprofit agencies, private agencies, businesses, educational institutions and individuals who are committed to improving the quality and availability of services to seniors.
