Math workshop offered in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — A math workshop for middle school students meets from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays June 17-27 at the San Antonio Train Depot, 32700 Railroad Ave. The workshop is sponsored by Yes You Can LLC, a tutoring business that specializes in helping struggling students. The workshop is free, excluding supplies. For information or to register, call Sarah Christiansen at (352) 585-6327.

    OVIEDO — In a small town about five miles from the University of Central Florida there stands a two-story yellow house built in the 1920s. A modest sign mounted on the wall next to the front door says, "Chelonian Research Institute."

Time magazine has declared him a hero of the planet and other turtle experts say he is to turtles what Dian Fossey was to gorillas. He's been instrumental in helping other species, too, including the Florida panther. He has traveled the world studying turtles.
