Memorial Day ceremonies

Several local groups have events today throughout the county to honor our fallen soldiers and celebrate our freedom:

Remembrance service at West Elfers Cemetery: 10 a.m. at the cemetery, just west of U.S. 19 off State Road 54 (directly behind Suncoast Toyota) in New Port Richey. For information, call Jeff Cannon at (727) 992-9947.

VFW Post 10167 ceremony: 11 a.m. at the post, 4619 Bartelt Road, Holiday. For information, call (727) 942-3932.

VFW Post 7845 ceremony and picnic: Ceremony at noon, picnic from 1 to 4 p.m. at the post, 6315 Stone Road, Port Richey, (727) 847-6277. Burgers, hot dogs, beverages and more. Donation: $6 per person.

Knights of Columbus picnic: Doors open at noon at the Father Farrell Knights of Columbus, 2040 Grand Blvd., Holiday, (727) 934-8925. Donation: $2. Food available. Dancing: 2 p.m. Music: Hank Eichner.

Moose Lodge picnic: 4 to 7 p.m. at Moose Lodge 1429, 1936 Abacus Road, Holiday, (727) 937-9030. Menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, corn, baked beans. Tickets: $10. Music by Paul-E from 7 p.m.
