Motorcyclist dies from Crash injuries

A 46-year-old motorcyclist hospitalized after a traffic crash on State Road 54 on Saturday died days later, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Jose David Cruz Garcia of New Port Richey was eastbound on a 1999 Harley-Davidson Sportster west of Gunn Highway about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he changed lanes into the turn lane and crashed into the center concrete median, troopers said. Garcia was thrown from the motorcycle onto the westbound lanes of SR 54. He was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point and later transferred to a hospice center, where he died, troopers said.

Inmate now faces child sex charge

New charges have been added against a man suspected of a string of burglaries at Pasco schools earlier this year. Alexis Ortiz, 19, had a multicolored iPhone in his shorts pocket when he was arrested March 18, a Pasco sheriff's report states. Detectives searching the phone found a picture of a girl, about 2 years old, being sexually molested by a man, the report states. Detectives asked Ortiz about the picture, the report states, but he had no answer. Ortiz, of 7014 Ingelside Drive in Port Richey, was already in the Land O'Lakes jail on burglary and dealing-in-stolen-property charges. He was rearrested on a charge of possession of sexual performance by a child. He had $10,000 added to his bail, bringing it to $35,000.

Accountant is charged with theft

An accountant for a construction company was arrested Wednesday on charges that she embezzled $150,000. Christina Petrulli, 30, stole the money over three years at SC Signature Construction Corp. at 8530 Oreto Drive, deputies said. She was caught after the company's owner got a letter about money drawn off his business account while Petrulli was on a cruise, a report states. The owner looked further into the corporate account records and found the rest of the money was missing, later used to pay Petrulli's personal bills. In an interview with deputies, Petrulli said she took the money but didn't realize it was that much, the report states. Petrulli, of 404 Portland Ave. in Spring Hill, was arrested on a charge of grand theft. She was released after posting $10,000 bail.
