Neighborhood association meetings Jan. 9, 16

Downtown Neighborhood Association: Annual meeting, 7 p.m. Thursday. Award-winning architect Alberto Alfonso will present plans for the new American Craftsman Museum at 333 Third Ave. N. Old Southeast Neighborhood Association: General meeting, 7 p.m. Thursday at the PAR building on Fourth Street at 19th Avenue S. An officer from the St. Petersburg Police Department will provide an update on crime statistics in the neighborhood.

Snell Isle Property Owners Association: Annual meeting and election of officers Jan. 16 at the St. Petersburg Woman's Club, 40 Snell Isle Blvd. Refreshments start at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting begins at 7.     The Pinellas County Commission has granted St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman's request to dedicate millions more toward the city's new pier.

  3. State investigation cites multiple failures in death of Largo child

    LARGO — It was sweltering in the bedroom of the Largo mobile home the day a child welfare case manager visited in July.

    Liz Rutenbeck, 24, poses with her son William in a Facebook photo. Baby William Hendrickson IV died while his mother was in jail after police said his father left ihim in a sweltering room.  A state investigation into the boy's death found multiple failures on the part of the child welfare system.
