55-year-old man killed when car leaves road

A 55-year-old New Port Richey man died Friday night when he lost control of his car as he drove south on Rowan Road, north of Notre Dame Street. The Florida Highway Patrol said William Louis Bagnato's 2007 Chevrolet Malibu left the road and struck a metal sign and trees. The car then spun and came to a stop among the trees.

Bagnato, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. Officials say they don't know why Bagnato lost control and are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the wreck.
