Volunteers needed to tidy waterways
Local volunteers are needed to pick up trash along Pasco's coastline, rivers and lakes as part of the 25th annual International Coastal Cleanup, slated for 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 18. Each year, hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world spend a few hours removing trash and debris from beaches, lakes and rivers. More than 65 tons of debris have been picked up over the past four years in Pasco County alone, recycling coordinator Jennifer Seney said. This year, Pasco will have about 20 teams of volunteers fanned across the county. To sign up for a team, contact Jennifer Seney at (727) 847-8041 or e-mail jseney@pascocounty fl.net. The local cleanup is organized by Pasco County Recycling in partnership with Keep Pasco Beautiful Inc.

Lobster fundraiser to pay for mission
Crossroads Community United Methodist Church is taking orders through Aug. 29 for live Maine lobsters to raise funds for a mission trip to Uganda. The cost is $12 for one lobster or $20 for two lobsters. Cooking instructions will be provided upon request, or the lobsters can be cooked for you for an additional donation. The proceeds will send a team of eight people back to Kabaale Village in Uganda in December, where they will serve in a community medical clinic and present a children's program of puppetry, music, crafts and Bible study. Lobster orders can be placed by mail, addressed to Crossroads Community UMC, 26211 County Line Road, Wesley Chapel 33544, or in person, 9 a.m. to noon Sundays at the church. For information, contact Pastor Jeff Smith at (813) 907-5815 or via e-mail at admin@crossroadsum.com.
Clarification
Sean Maus was a defendant in the April 2009 burglary and car theft of an 89-year-old woman in Port Richey. The woman was later the victim of a sexual assault — a separate case in which the state charged three of Maus' friends but not Maus himself. A story Saturday was unclear about which case he was charged in.
