North Tampa news: Conch Republic; after school; teachers wanted

History lecture: Robert Kerstein, a University of Tampa government professor, discusses his new book, Key West on the Edge: Inventing the Conch Republic, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water Street, downtown. Kerstein's lecture kicks off a new season of the Florida Conversations Lecture Series at the center. Florida Conversations is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Tampa Bay Times Forum East Lot, the Channelside garage and other city-owned lots. Scholarships available: Applications are available until Thursday for 4-H after-school program scholarships at three Hillsborough County Recreation Centers. The county has received a grant from the National 4-H Council and the MetLife Foundation to pay for 33 fourth- and fifth-graders to attend the Rec2Six after-school program. Apply at these centers between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays through Thursday: Egypt Lake, 3126 W Lambright St. Call (813) 975-2103; Roy Haynes, 1902 S Village Ave. Call (813) 903-3480; and University Area, 14015 N 22nd St. in Tampa. Applicants must be in fourth or fifth grade, be eligible for a free or reduced-price school lunch, be willing to provide feedback on surveys and tests and write a narrative describing why the scholarship is needed and why the family cannot afford the tuition fee. Teachers wanted: The Life Enrichment Center is accepting applications from qualified teachers for its cultural arts program for adults. Openings are available in fine arts, writing and photography.     DUNEDIN — Pinellas County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday identified the man found floating in a Dunedin canal as the man who was reported missing last week.

    Charles P. Morris, 63, was found dead in a canal in Dunedin behind Cedar Creek Mobile Home Park, at 605 Michigan Blvd. around 3:48 p.m. Monday.
