OLDSMAR — Phyllis Slaunwhite, 89, meant to park her car in front of the post office.

Instead, Slaunwhite's vehicle plowed through the Oldsmar office's front doors at 3905 Tampa Road. It smashed through several walls and into an automatic postal machine before coming to a halt as it struck the back wall of the building.

Slaunwhite, who was being treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries Monday afternoon, told police she couldn't remember anything after pulling into a parking space in front of the post office around noon.

Although 17 employees were working in the back room area when the car zoomed through, no one was hurt in the midday crash. Early reports estimated $250,000 in damage.

Pinellas County deputies said Slaunwhite must have stepped on the accelerator and jumped the curb before driving through the post office.

The investigation is ongoing.
