LAND O'LAKES — Parents from three Land O'Lakes communities urged the Pasco County School Board on Tuesday night to reject proposed attendance zones that would send their children to schools they don't want to attend.
They walked away unhappy.
The School Board approved new boundaries for high schools in the Hudson area, to accommodate the new Fivay High School, and also for elementary schools in the Odessa/Trinity area, to accommodate a new school now known as Elementary S.
The new schools are slated to open in the fall.
"When you piss off some and you please some, you probably did the best that you could," said board member Kathryn Starkey, who supported the new elementary school boundary lines but cast the lone vote against the motion because she did not back the plan to move Suncoast Lakes students from River Ridge High to Hudson High.
Board member Cathi Martin called setting boundaries one of the most difficult things a school board can do. She acknowledged that many people would leave upset.
"You got that right!" one parent said angrily as she rose to leave.
"You should all be voted off, including the superintendent!" shouted another man.
