Volunteers sought for SHINE program

Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders will provide volunteer orientation at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 at its office at the Area Agency on Aging, 4111 Land O'Lakes Blvd. Coffee and breakfast bars will be served. SHINE is a program of the Florida Department of Elders through which volunteers provide free, unbiased one-on-one insurance counseling and information about Medicare options and prescription drug assistance for elders and their families and caregivers. Sweet Potato Round-Up set for Sept. 23

New Port Richey FarmNet will host the 2017 Sweet Potato Round-Up and Fall Farming Market from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at West Pasco Habitat for Humanity, 4131 Madison St. There is no cost to attend. The event will feature hundreds of pounds of locally grown organic sweet potatoes, offered by FarmNet growers. There will be several varieties of sweet potatoes available. Samples and recipes will be available. The farming market will feature seeds and seedlings for fall vegetable gardens. The Friendship Farms and Fare Springs Coast Watershed Seed Bank will have locally acclimated broccoli, gandules (pigeon peas) and arugula seeds and seedlings available for sale. NAMI to host annual banquet Oct. 5

The National Alliance on Mental Illness/NAMI Hernando will host its annual awards banquet Oct. 5 at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave. The event, during Mental Illness Awareness Week, is to recognize those in the community who have gone above and beyond to help those with a mental illness and their families. The speaker will be international motivational speaker Jeff Yalden, who has presented his program, "Take Time to Think," to more than 4 million youth. Exhibit to feature zoo and wild animals

The Pasco Fine Arts Council will host an exhibition and competition, "Zooper Art Exhibit," from Oct. 3 through Nov. 3 at the arts center, 4145 Fairford Drive. The exhibit will include artwork in any medium with the theme of wild or zoo animals. Artwork will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 29, with winners announced at a reception Oct. 6. Library program to promote health

A seven-session Whole Body "Tune-Up" program will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month beginning Oct. 7 at Zephyrhills Public Library, 5347 8th St. Sessions will promote health and well-being and include information on how to manage chronic illness, healing foods and nutrition, meditation techniques for healing, herbal remedies and essential oils, as well as complimentary alternative healing such as reiki and healing touch. The facilitator will be Karen O'Rourke, who has 35 years of holistic nursing experience. The classes are free, but advance registration is required due to limited space.
