Responders use Ebola protocol
Emergency responders in Hernando County initiated their Ebola protocol late Sunday in handling the case of a person in Spring Hill with flu-like symptoms who recently had traveled to the United Kingdom and another unidentified country, officials said.
The person did not have Ebola. Hernando County's protocol for responding to cases of the infectious disease includes dispatching a hazardous materials team and closing roads to set up a "safe work zone." Responders took the person to Oak Hill Hospital.
It was not clear Sunday if the unidentified location was in West Africa, the county said in a statement. Therefore, officials said they acted with an "abundance of caution."

Stranded turtles flown to Florida
Nearly 200 endangered sea turtles that became stranded on Cape Cod will be airlifted to Florida.
The New England Aquarium says the Coast Guard will ship the Kemp's Ridley turtles to Orlando, where they will then be sent to marine rehabilitation facilities.
The stranded turtles, weighing up to 10 pounds, were collected by the Massachusetts Audubon Society at Wellfleet Bay and treated at the aquarium's marine animal hospital in Quincy.
After the 193 sea turtles are flown to Florida today, more than 150 will remain at the hospital to complete a four day re-warming process. Nearly 100 others are being cared for at a nature center.
Scientists say a record number of sea turtles have washed up on Cape Cod this year.

Woman takes plea deal in shooting
A Jacksonville woman has taken a plea deal for firing a gun at her estranged husband and his two sons in what she claims was self-defense.
The Florida Times-Union reports that Marissa Alexander, who is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the 2010 shooting, will receive credit for the 1,030 days she has served. She must serve 65 more days and will be released Jan. 27. The state waived the minimum mandatory 20-year prison sentence under the deal.
Alexander says she fired the gun as a warning because she feared her abusive husband, Rico Gray. Neither Gray nor his sons were injured.
Alexander's conviction in the first trial was thrown out by an appeals court.

Chitwood told the Daytona Beach News-Journal it's not the first time his tires have been slashed since he has been chief. They were slashed twice in the same day on Christmas Day.
He says the vandals usually strike at night. But Saturday afternoon he noticed the tires were damaged when he stepped out to get the mail about two hours after arriving home.
