Explore the intricacies of Constitution
Pasco-Hernando Community College will commemorate Constitution Day with two special programs. "The 14th Amendment, Then and Now," an exploration of the amendment granting equal protection and due process to all people, the role that amendment played in the women's suffrage movement and its relevance to contemporary culture, will be presented at 11 a.m. Monday. "Constitutional Strange," a presentation on some of the less well-known provisions of the Constitution that illustrate differences between the concerns of the founders and the majority of Americans today, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Both free programs will be in the Performing Arts Center at the west campus, 10230 Ridge Road in New Port Richey. Meet candidates at breakfast event
The West Pasco Chamber of Commerce will host a special breakfast featuring candidates on the Nov. 2 ballot. The breakfast, billed as "Politics & Pancakes," will be held at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 24 at Seven Springs Golf and Country Club, 3535 Trophy Blvd. Everyone is invited to meet and talk with candidates running for local political office. Relay for Life meeting Tuesday
A committee meeting for Relay for Life of Wesley Chapel will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Atonement Lutheran Church, 29617 State Road 54. The Relay for Life Committee welcomes members of the community to attend the meeting to learn how to participate in this annual event benefiting the American Cancer Society. Police announce DUI checkpoint
New Port Richey police will have a DUI checkpoint from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday near Pine Hill Road and Congress Street to apprehend impaired drivers. People should arrange for a designated driver or call for a taxi if they have been drinking, police said. New Port Richey police will run the checkpoint with help from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Highway Patrol and Port Richey police.
