BRANDON — Ron Turner has been named the new head coach of the Blue Wave swim team at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center. Turner has 27 years of coaching experience.

Turner is a USA Swimming National Team coach from Atlanta, Ga., where he was the lead coach of Stingrays Swimming. He was also previously the head coach of the Jiangsu swim team in Nanjing, China, where he coached Chinese National Team members. He has coached at several collegiate programs and nationally ranked club teams, including Indiana University Bloomington, the YMCA of the Triangle Area swim team in Raleigh, N.C., and Irvine Novaquatics in Irvine, Calif.

He coached swimmers at the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia, and the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, China. He was an assistant coach for the USA Women's Team in the 2007 PanAmerican Games, and a coach for the 2007 Indonesian World Championship Team.

Turner was named National YMCA Coach of the Year in 2006 and the North Carolina Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
