Agenda: SRO's role, teacher evaluations

The Pinellas County School Board will hold a workshop on Tuesday that will include a presentation by Pinellas County schools police Chief Tom Gavin on the role of the school resource officer and an update on the new teacher evaluations. The board meets at 10 a.m. in district headquarters, 301 Fourth St. in Largo.

SPC releases video on synthetic drugs

The drowning of 19-year-old Logan Matthew Kushner after he smoked a "designer drug" prompted St. Petersburg College last week to release, ahead of schedule, a video on the spike in synthetic drug use. Police say Kushner smoked "Jazz," a legal herbal incense that users say mimics the effects of marijuana, before he went for a swim in a Clearwater park creek.

The 60-minute video titled Designer Drugs: The New Frontier aims to give teachers, law enforcement officials and parents information about designer drugs, what they are and their impact.
