School notes: Donor challenges community to match $80,000

Donor challenges community to match $80,000 for St. Peter Claver Catholic School:

Tampa's St. Peter Claver Catholic School, the oldest African-American school functioning in Florida, has been awarded $80,000 in matching funds by the Louis de la Parte family of Tampa.

School leaders and the de la Parte family are hoping the offer to match all donations made now through April 2012 will help the school raise funds.

Who should get We Deliver award? Nominations are now being accepted through March 30 for the sixth annual We Deliver award, which is given to a school employee who has exceeded his or her job duties and expectations.

Anyone who knows a teacher, secretary, clerk, custodian, principal, aide, bus driver, maintenance worker, lunchroom worker or other staff member who fits the description is encouraged to submit a nomination.

A committee of staffers, students, parents and community members will review the nominations and recommend a list of finalists to the superintendent.

School Board members, district and Education Foundation staff and the superintendent will surprise the winner at his or her work site May 25.

The nomination form can be accessed at www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/wedeliver. Paper nominations can be faxed to (813) 272-4510 or mailed to Office of Communications, Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center, 901 E Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, FL 33602.
