BROOKSVILLE

Second arrest made in pizza shop robbery

Police have arrested the second suspect in the robbery of a pizza shop Wednesday evening. Joel Gavin Ford, 25, of Brooksville faces charges of armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Ford surrendered to Brooksville police Friday evening and was booked into the county jail. He was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. According to the arrest report, Ford and John Patrick Maher burst into the Little Caesars at 682 Broad St. demanding money. Ford and Maher then allegedly ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Maher, 29, remains in jail on charges of armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Veterans parade starts at 10 a.m.

The 2009 Veterans Appreciation Parade will be at 10 a.m. today in downtown Brooksville. Parade lineup will start at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind City Hall, 201 Howell Ave. The parade will go south on Main Street, east onto Liberty Street, north onto Magnolia Avenue, through the courthouse parking lot and across Jefferson Street to Fort Dade Avenue, and west on Fort Dade back to the City Hall parking lot.

Food drive today at Hernando High

The Brooksville Senior Future Farmers of America, with support from United Way of Hernando County, will host a "Miles of Meals" food drive from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Hernando High School outdoor track, 700 Bell Ave. Donations of nonperishable food and drinks, as well as pet food, are being collected. Food pantries within the county interested in receiving some of today's food collection should contact United Way at (352) 688-2026.

Humane Society seeks volunteers

The Humane Society of the Nature Coast needs volunteers to help in the following areas: Cleaning and feeding of dogs or cats, office/reception desk, offsite/event representatives to provide brochures and fliers at booth setups, and to bring a dog or cat to events to initiate adoptions. Also, foster care homes to help foster kittens and puppies are needed. A volunteer orientation will be provided 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 21 at the shelter at Wiscon and Mobley roads. Garage sale to aid greyhound group

A garage sale to benefit Greyhound Pets of America/Senior Sanctuary of Florida will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at 3337 Morven Drive. Proceeds will be used to pay for food and veterinary expenses associated with fostering and placing senior greyhounds in loving homes. Call (352) 686-1752.
