Workshop targets scams on seniors

Seniors, particularly those who are blind or visually impaired, need to know how to protect themselves from fraud and scam artists. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, they will have a chance to learn about services to help them identify and avoid financial schemes at the "Safeguard Our Seniors'' workshop at Lighthouse of Pinellas, 6925 112th Circle N, Suite 203, Largo. It is being presented by the state Department of Financial Services, Division of Consumer Services. It is free and open to the public. For information, call (727) 544-4433.

SPCA requests holiday donations

The SPCA Tampa Bay, 9099 130th Ave. N, Largo, is asking for donations for its Wish List during the holiday season. Needs include chicken- or beef-flavored Science Diet for dogs or cats, spray window cleaner, paper towels, dog beds, baby blankets, cloth towels and stainless steel feeding bowls. Donations are received from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For information, call (727) 586-3591 or visit www.SPCATampaBay.org.

Death by Chocolate fundraiser set

Death by Chocolate, the Rotary Club of Largo's annual fundraiser in its 14th year, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 4. "Chocolatiers'' from two dozen area businesses will fill the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive. A silent auction also will be held. Along with desserts, coffee and wine will be served. Proceeds benefit local charities. Cost: $20 in advance; $25 at the door. For ticket information, call (727) 587-6793.

Renovated rec center has open house

An open house will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 5 for adults, seniors and snowbirds who have not seen the renovated Southwest Recreation Complex, 13120 Vonn Road, Largo. There will be a variety of demonstrations at the complex including Jazzercise, country line dancing, Pilates and computer lessons. For information, call (727) 518-3125.

Holiday program teaches traditions

The Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive, will present Santa's Holiday Revue, the third performance of its Children and Family Series, at 11 a.m. Dec. 5. The audience will learn about traditions, customs and folklore. Music and stories about Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa will be included. Holiday Stroll features crafts, fun

Join friends and family for Largo's annual Holiday Stroll from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5 at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive. Each shelter in the park will feature a different holiday story, activity or craft for kids of all ages. Live entertainment includes Dallas Brass. A tree lighting will be at 7 p.m. in the park's center. Concessions will be available.
