The inaugural gala to benefit the Palladium Theater at St. Petersburg College was a celebration for friends of the college and the theater. Executive director Paul Wilborn and his wife, Eugenie Bondurant, performed for guests during a preconcert reception, as did jazz guitarist Nate Najar.

For patrons of the event, there were refreshments during intermission and coffee and dessert with Lee Lessack, Brian Lane Green and John Boswell, the evening's stars of "Three Men and a Baby ... Grand!"

Organizing the event were community relations director Cory Adler-Leidersdorff, director of operations Kathy Oathout and Edie Dressler of Tampa.


Equality Florida's 2012 Pinellas Gala drew more than 330 guests and raised more than $127,000 in a cocktail party atmosphere at the Dalí Museum, Pinellas development officer Todd Richardson reports.

Speakers included executive director Nadine Smith and Voice of Equality Award recipients Amy Mandel and Robert Sanderson.

Presented by St. Pete Pride, the event was coordinated by Pinellas steering committee members Annie Hiotis and Chris Rudisill, co-chairs; Joel Briskman and Joseph Peace, Bob Devin Jones, Joe Morrissey and Katee Tully.


The Pinellas Auxiliary of the Children's Home partnered with Saks Fifth Avenue this year for the 26th annual Star Power celebrity fashion show. The evening fundraiser took place in the Tampa store and featured the designs of Tadashi Shoji.

Bay area models included Margaret Word Burnside, Jen Holloway, Holley Sinn, Cathy Unruh, Julianna Zobrist, Elaine Liles, Jack Harris, Jason Romano and Dewon Brazelton.

Cheryl Adams, Karol Bullard, Debbie Hedges, Hope Dogali and Carole Tonnison were co-chairs for the event, helped by Natalie Bullard, Lynette Carney, Hilde Hulen, Debbie Russell, Valerie Tolisano, Danni Tonnison and Connie Whitehead.


The sold-out 59th annual Polywogs Invitational Golf Tournament, held at the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club on March 26, raised more than $30,000 to benefit the First Tee of St. Petersburg, the Children's Dream Fund, All Children's Hospital, R'Club Child Care and the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. The event was sponsored by the Sanchez Family Foundation.

Tournament committee members, including chairman Jack Frost and Polywogs president Del Goforth, presented checks of $6,000 to each charity in ceremonies at the St. Petersburg Country Club. Gillian Barnes, the First Tee's community relations director, gave an award to the civic group, which has raised more than $1.6 million for various charities since its inception.

Team Niagara from the Youngstown Yacht Club in Niagara County, N.Y., was the winner of the Hospice Regattas National Championship April 19-22 at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.

Gary Tisdale and Team Niagara won 12 of 13 races that took place in Tampa Bay; Brett Moss and Team Fort Lauderdale placed second; and Steve Olinger and Team Treasure Island placed third.

An auction featuring items donated by members and visiting sailors raised more than $9,000 for the Suncoast Hospice Foundation; an anonymous donor contributed another $112,000. In all, the regatta raised more than $142,000 for the foundation.

Carol Bardes chaired the event; it was the first time the hospice championship has sailed out of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, which will host it again in 2013.
