HERNANDO BEACH

Driver faces charge of DUI manslaughter

A Spring Hill woman was charged Friday with DUI manslaughter in a three-vehicle crash in October that killed two people and seriously injured three others. Lorrey Ann Richard, 22, was arrested by Hernando County sheriff's deputies and booked into the Hernando County Jail, where she remained in custody Saturday in lieu of $100,000 bail. Richard was intoxicated, deputies say, while behind the wheel of a sport utility vehicle about 2:30 a.m. Oct. 25 when it crossed the center line on Shoal Line Boulevard, about a mile north of Osowaw Boulevard, and crashed head-on into a van driven by Mackenzie Shipe, 19, of Weeki Wachee. Two passengers in the van, Bryan Riggs, 23, of Weeki Wachee and Ashley Barnett, 20, of Spring Hill were pronounced dead at the scene. Both Shipe and Richard were critically injured in the crash. Carrie A. Goldstein, 30, of Spring Hill, the driver of another vehicle that hit Shipe's van from behind, also was seriously injured.
