St. Petersburg man accused of stealing car at gunpoint

Man accused of stealing car at gunpoint

Authorities have arrested a man who they say stole a car at gunpoint at a Seminole Sweetbay on Monday afternoon. Pinellas County sheriff's officials said Anthony Eugene Sutton, 37, of St. Petersburg pointed a gun at Gerald Kolar, 82, of Seminole in the parking lot of the supermarket, 10370 Seminole Boulevard, at about 3:30 p.m., then drove away with Kolar's 2003 Buick. Sutton was later arrested in Largo after an undercover detective saw a car with a matching description, officials said. He was taken into custody after a brief pursuit during which the Sheriff's Office helicopter helped locate him. Before stealing Kolar's car, Sutton tried to steal the car of 54-year-old Michelle Hingley of Largo, who was getting out of her car with her children when Sutton approached, authorities said. Hingley ran away with her children and the keys to her vehicle, sheriff's officials said. No one was injured. Sutton faces charges of carjacking and attempted carjacking.

Charge may add to inmate's sentence

A judge had already decided that Javaris Johnson would spend the next several months in jail. But the 19-year-old St. Petersburg man now could face a much longer stay. That's because authorities say that Johnson began masturbating — in plain view of at least two children — during a video visitation session Sunday at the Pinellas County Jail. The incident, which happened at about 1 p.m., lasted about a minute, officials said. Johnson now faces a charge of lewd and lascivious exhibition. Records show that in March, he was sentenced to a year in jail followed by three years of probation for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and other charges that originated in 2012.

Bus passenger charged in attack

A Palm Harbor man was arrested Friday after police said he kidnapped and sexually battered a teenager he met on a public bus. Isaac Randall Fredericks, 26, was charged with felony counts of kidnapping and sexual battery. Jail records show he has a lengthy arrest record. According to reports, Fredericks met the 16-year-old victim on a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus shortly before 9:45 p.m. on June 11. Police said he followed the victim home and attacked her in a wooded area north of Drew Street between Keene Road and Hercules Avenue in Clearwater. Investigators identified Fredericks as a suspect using a description from the victim and surveillance footage from the bus. Fredericks remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Monday with bail set at $160,000.

Skinny-dippers will try to set record

The Lake Como Family Nudist Resort & Community in Lutz is planning to participate in an event spanning North America that aims to have the most skinny-dippers in the water at various locations at the same time. The resort says this year's event will try to outdo a record set in 2010, when 14,110 skinny-dippers participated nationwide. This year, the attempt will be made on July 13 and involve some 100 locations. And for those who want to be part of it, it's happening at 1 p.m. at the Lutz resort.
