Students catch cheap ride with $20 'haul pass'
Students out on summer vacation now have a new way to catch a cheap ride to popular hangouts around the county. Pasco's public transportation office is offering a $20 "haul pass" that will offer unlimited rides during the summer. The pass is available to students who are eligible for a reduced fare ID card and is good from now through Aug. 18. Commissioner Pat Mulieri had suggested the program. She said the pass would be good for kids who want to use the new route along State Road 54 to head to the Shops at Wiregrass or the movie theater at the Grove shopping center. Passes are available at the Public Transportation office at 8620 Galen Wilson Blvd., Port Richey. For information, call (727) 834-3322.

Learn how to apply for a Habitat home
Habitat for Humanity of East and Central Pasco will hold three information sessions for those interested in applying for a home. Staff members will be available from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on June 27, July 12 and July 31 at the Habitat office at 15017 U.S. 301 (at the corner of Lock Street, across from the Dade City Business Center) to answer questions and meet prospective home owners. Financial advisers often suggest deferring home ownership until buyers can make a down payment of at least 20 percent, but Habitat for Humanity allows people to complete volunteer hours instead of providing money for a down payment. Habitat houses are then sold to qualifying families with a no-profit, interest-free mortgage. Habitat for Humanity of East and Central Pasco plans to build 20 houses during the next year in Dade City, Lacoochee, Zephyrhills, Wesley Chapel and Land O'Lakes. For information visit www.habitatpasco.org or call (352) 567-1444.
