Tampa Bay area Tuskegee Airmen, show your stuff

Calling all Tampa Bay area Tuskegee Airmen or their belongings — photos, stories, letters or any other artifacts — for an upcoming exhibit at the Gallery at Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road, in Tampa.

The objects will be used in February as part of the center's display of "The Test," a multimedia exhibition about the airmen who were the first African-American aviators in the U.S. military.

"The Test" was created by Charlotte, N.C., photographer Jerry Taliaferro, who wants to create wall panels about Tuskegee Airmen from, or residing in, the Tampa Bay area. He also is looking for information about St. Petersburg's Al Downing, a former music educator, airman and the namesake of the Al Downing Jazz Association.

Contact Taliaferro at newtribe8@cs.com or (980) 236-7171 or the center's artistic director, Richard Haerther, at richardh@carrollwood center.org or (813) 269-1310 if you can help.
