This week

Heaven Can Wait: Stage West Community Playhouse will present the comedy at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 27 at 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The play tells the story of Joe Pendleton, a professional boxer and pilot who, when a flight goes awry, has his soul pulled from his body, in error, before he has died. In heaven, Mr. Jordan is then forced to find a new body. Joe finds himself in the body of a rich man, recently murdered by his wife. Tickets are $18 for adults, $9 for students. For the dogs: Soggie Doggie Day at Pine Island Beach will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Alfred A. McKethan Park, 10800 Pine Island Drive. Gates open at 7 a.m. There will be contests for best beachwear, pet/owner look-alike and fastest swimmer (20 yards). Contests are $3 per dog per event. Admission is $10 per vehicle. The park is limited to 120 vehicles; advance gate tickets may be purchased at the Hernando County Recreation Department office, 205 E Fort Dade Ave., Brooksville. Proof of vaccinations must be provided at time of ticket purchase. Call (352) 754-4031.

Brooksville Bandshell Bash: Stone's Tribute, a rock band composed of teachers from West Hernando Middle School, will perform from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hernando Park, 205 E Fort Dade Ave. The Bandshell Bash is a free monthly family event sponsored by the Hernando County Fine Arts Council. It includes the Brooksville Cruise-In, an antique hot rod car show and a motorcycle show. There will be food and refreshments. Call (352) 754-4788.

Quick trips

Historical river tours: Ecotours are offered at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Crystal River Preserve State Park on Sailboat Avenue, off U.S. 19. Narrated tours to the mouth of Crystal River are 11/2 hours long. Tickets go on sale one hour before departure: adults $10, children ages 7-12 $8, and free for kids 6 and younger. Look ahead

Bluesapalooza: The Hernando County Recreation Department event will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 19 and noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 at Anderson Snow Park, 1630 Anderson Snow Road, Spring Hill. Bands will perform blues, Southern rock and Americana. There will be an interactive Kidzone, plus vendors and exhibitors. Admission is $5. VIP reserved seating is $25 per day or $40 for both days if purchased in advance ($30 per day, $50 for both on day of show). For VIP tickets, call Christie Williams at (352) 540-6357.

Curtain call

War of the Worlds: Auditions will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday for this Readers Theater Production at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. The director is David Stenger. A cast of 24 is needed, with roles for men and women 20 and older. Production dates are Oct. 30-31. Call (352) 442-3609.

Talent show: Auditions for the Oct. 3 Talent Showcase will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20 Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. All ages and talents are welcome.
