Toddler in critical condition after accident

Toddler's condition is critical after accident

A toddler accidently run over by his father Thursday afternoon is hanging on, according to Steve Gaskins, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.

Andrew F. Pope III, 18 months, was in critical condition Friday at Tampa General Hospital. His father, Andrew F. Pope Jr., 26, backed his car into a Trilby driveway and did not see his son behind him.

Construction worker remains in hospital

A 36-year-old steelworker injured in a construction accident remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Brian Pledger of Riverview was working at the construction site of Generations Christian Church on Little Road, north of Trinity Boulevard, about 10:15 a.m. Thursday.

He was sitting on a joist as it was being lowered into place. After he unhooked the joist from a chain connecting it to a construction crane, he signaled the crane operator to move the line away.

But the operator couldn't see the joist, and it was knocked off its bracket. Pledger struck his head on the joist and then fell to the concrete, about 30 feet below.

The sheriff's report said he was wearing a safety harness, but it wasn't attached to anything. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.

Maid charged after jewelry is stolen

Pasco County deputies arrested a 52-year-old maid from Lutz and charged her in jewelry thefts from three homes in Land O'Lakes over the past 18 months.

Sena Louise Goodman of 21723 State Road 54 was charged with grand theft.

According to deputies, Goodman worked as a maid at three homes, cleaning them once a week.

Recently, the homeowners began noticing that jewelry was missing. When they confronted Goodman, she denied any knowledge of the thefts.

But when investigators began checking, they found the jewelry at several pawn shops in Tampa. Goodman's name and driver's license number were on the pawn slips, deputies said.
