Truck crash in Tampa kills driver

Man dies after truck crashes into tree

A single-vehicle crash killed a man early Sunday, deputies said. A 2001 Dodge pickup went off the road as it approached a sharp curve on Van Dyke Road, east of Dale Mabry Highway, deputies said. The truck struck a tree. The driver, 36-year-old Michael J. Poarch, was not wearing a seat belt, according to deputies. He died at the scene. Deputies say they suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the 2:20 a.m. crash. An investigation continues.

Two bodies found on popular trail

Bicyclists out for an early morning ride along a popular Central Florida bike and walking trail made a grisly discovery Sunday. Detectives are investigating a double homicide after two bodies were found burning along Cady Way Trail. The bicyclists reported the find about 6:40 a.m., according to Capt. Angelo Nieves with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. No details about the victims or cause of death have been released. Detectives and forensics personnel were at the scene, and the bodies were handed over to the medical examiner's office for autopsy. The bodies were left on an embankment next to a bridge spanning the Crane Strand Canal. It's a fairly remote stretch of the trail.
