Veterans Day ceremony at Bay Pines starts at 10 a.m. Friday


Bay Pines sets the stage for Veterans Day

A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Bay Pines VA Medical Center National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd.

The keynote speaker will be retired Army Col. Mike Prendergast, who was appointed executive director of the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs on June 22.

The ceremony also includes a firing salute, taps performance, music by Keswick Christian High School students and a military vehicle display. Free.

Forum offers up to 23 health screenings

The African-American Health Forum will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnnie Ruth Clarke Health Center, 1344 22nd St. S. The annual event is intended to enrich the minds, bodies and spirits of area residents. Included are a wellness walk through downtown, up to 23 free health screenings, diet and exercise tips, free lunch and entertainment by local dance and music groups. Free. Audubon bird walk at Eagle Lake Park
