The Hernando County Sheriff's Office will conduct Operation Medicine Cabinet from 8 a.m. to noon today at the Lake House, 1202 Kenlake Ave. Residents can bring unwanted or expired prescription medicines for proper disposal. There will be free giveaways.
Seminar explains hospice services
A free program on the services offered by HPH Hospice will be provided at 8 a.m. Monday at the Hernando County Family YMCA, 1300 Mariner Blvd. The program will include an overview of services and programs, eligibility, reimbursement, where care takes place and other topics. Pioneer Day: Spit seeds, toss skillets
Pioneer Day will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Chinsegut Nature Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, north of Brooksville. The event features living arts from the past, such as hand-cranked ice cream, a lumberjack demonstration and a cider press demonstration, as well as horse-drawn wagon rides, butter churning, rope making, open-hearth cooking and archery exhibits. There will also be kids' sack races, watermelon seed-spitting contest for the men, a skillet-throwing contest for the women and a pie-eating contest for all ages. Admission is free.
