Wesley Chapel toddler recovering from near drowning

WESLEY CHAPEL — The 15-month-old girl who nearly drowned is recovering and will be released from the hospital today, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

A family member found Kayla Chanea about 11 a.m. Thursday in a pond behind her home on 27825 Breakers Drive. A neighbor came over to do CPR, and the 911 dispatchers gave CPR instructions over the phone, helping to save the girl's life, the Sheriff's Office said.

Kayla had wandered out of the home through a sliding glass door while three adults, including her father, were home. The near-drowning appears to be an accident, sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin said.
