A 37-year-old man received an electric shock Tuesday afternoon after he cut live wire in an attempt to steal copper from a transformer, authorities said.
Pasco sheriff's deputies have not released the man's name. They said he sneaked into the area of the Hyde Park subdivision where the transformers are stored and got shocked trying to steal copper wire. He was taken to an area hospital with second- and third-degree burns on his hands and arms. He has not been arrested yet, deputies said.
Withlacoochee River Electric estimated the man had about $50 worth of copper on him and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, in addition to knocking out power to parts of the subdivision.
