Zephyrhills woman in critical condition after head-on crash

ZEPHYRHILLS

Two drivers injured in head-on collision

A Thursday crash in Pasco County has left a 67-year-old woman in critical condition.

Around 7 p.m., 16-year-old Jonathan Edward Kubiak was driving west on Pretty Pond Road as Sharon Kleist Zacharias was traveling east, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Kubiak swerved left in his 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, veering into the eastbound lanes, and smashed into the front of Zacharias' 1987 Mitsubishi pickup, troopers said.

Kubiak and Zacharias, both of Zephyrhills, were taken to area hospitals: Kubiak to Florida Hospital with minor injuries and Zacharias to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa by helicopter for critical injuries.

Troopers said Kubiak, who has a learner's permit but was driving alone, was cited for failure to stay in his designated lane and violation of his permit.

Police have identified a 39‑year-old man who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday.

Michael Eugene Ray of Holiday lost control of his bike and was thrown off about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Largo police said. Ray, who was not wearing a helmet, was heading southbound on U.S. 19, north of East Bay Drive. He was flown to a hospital with serious injuries and was still in critical condition Friday, police said.

Results of routine blood work are not back yet and no charges have been filed, police said.
