On Thursday morning at the start of citrus season, Jim Oleson, owner of the Boyett's Grove orange processing plant, and employee Alonzo Rodriguez headed out to pick ripened Fall-Glo tangerines at Jerry Rice's groves in Spring Lake. After selecting the fruit suitable for eating, they will go through a process of washing and waxing for longevity of distribution and shelf life. Oleson says they are getting ready for the Christmas shipping season with more than 30 varieties of citrus.
