Canadians love Florida.

WestJet, a Canadian airline, is therefore testing out a new direct route between St. John's International Airport in Newfoundland and Tampa International Airport next spring.

It's one of several new or adjusted routes coming to Tampa International Airport over the next several months that involve flights to Panama, Las Vegas, Baltimore, Cincinnati and Akron-Canton, Ohio.

"We wanted to give the people of St. John's another direct destination in Florida," said WestJet spokeswoman Lauren Stewart. "It allows people to get to the beach by early evening."

Canada is the largest international market for Florida's tourism industry, attracting 3.8 million visitors in 2015, according to the state. WestJet currently offers year-round flights to Toronto from Tampa, plus seasonal flights to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Ottawa.

The weekly flight to St. John's will run between April 7 and May 26.

Copa Airlines also recently adjusted its flight schedule's arrival and departure times between Tampa and Panama, which run four times a week.

Previously, the flights left Tampa at 8 a.m. and arrived in Panama at 10:20 a.m. Return trips would leave Panama at 6:48 p.m. and land in Tampa at 11:15 p.m.

Now the flights will arrive and depart closer to midday, pulling into Panama in the early evening and into Tampa in the early afternoon.

The adjusted routes will allow for improved connections to more than 20 Latin American countries, according to Tampa International.

This month also marked the start of added daily service from Tampa to Las Vegas through Frontier Airlines.

On Oct. 30, Frontier will launch four weekly flights to Cincinnati. Spirit Airlines will offer flights to Baltimore and Akron-Canton starting Nov. 10.
