Flight detours to Tampa to drop off 'unruly' passengers

TAMPA — A Delta flight from Atlanta to Costa Rica made an unscheduled stop at Tampa International Airport on Sunday to kick off an "unruly" couple.

Peter and Gabriele Strohmaier, a German husband and wife, were first-class passengers who refused to sit down and continued to make demands of the flight staff, said Tampa International Airport spokeswoman Janet Zink.

"They were demanding champagne and food," said Zink.

Authorities did not press charges against the couple, who are staying at a hotel. As a matter of routine, the FBI is looking into the incident, said Zink.

The decision to stop in Tampa was made by the captain, said Delta spokeswoman Chris Kelly Singley.

Flight 413 arrived in Tampa around 7:30 p.m. and was on the ground for about an hour before continuing on to Costa Rica.1
