CLEARWATER — A jet skidded off the taxiway before takeoff Sunday afternoon, forcing 142 passengers to spend a little more time in the Tampa Bay area than planned.
Allegiant Air Flight 882 to Grand Rapids, Mich., was headed toward a runway at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport just after 4 p.m. when it went off the pavement and onto grass, where it got stuck, according to Allegiant spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler.
Nobody was injured, but the passengers had to wait on the plane until several buses drove them back to the terminal.
The MD-80 jet stayed put just off the taxiway Sunday evening while a team of engineers assessed any damage, Wheeler said. Information on how the accident happened would not be available until Allegiant could de-brief its pilots.
Passengers were offered full refunds or could change flights with no surcharge, Wheeler said.
