Spirit to start flying from TIA to Pittsburgh/Latrobe

Spirit Airlines plans to expand its offerings out of Tampa International Airport. Starting Dec. 18, the airline will start flying between TIA and Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, which serves the Latrobe/Pittsburgh area.

Spirit, known for its low fares but numerous fees, will also add a flight between Pittsburgh and Fort Myers in December.

A one-way flight from TIA to Latrobe/Pittsburgh on Dec. 19 was running about $125, depending on fees.

"While the summers in western Pennsylvania can be wonderful, the winter's here can be cold and long," Mark Kopczak, Spirit's Vice President of Network Planning, said in a statement. "That's why Spirit is providing more flights to warm and sunny Florida with new service to Tampa and Fort Myers just in time to escape the cold of the next winter."
