Vandenberg renamed Tampa Executive Airport

Tampa's backup airport for corporate jets has a new name: Tampa Executive Airport. The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority board voted Thursday to rename the old Vandenberg Airport east of Tampa. The authority bought the airport in 1985 from the family of founder George Vandenberg with the stipulation that the name remain unchanged for 20 years. Authority officials say the new name will help identify the airport with the Tampa Bay area. Some private pilots got confused when they searched the Web and found a very different aviation site: Vandenberg Air Force Base, a missile-launch facility in California. The new name should fix that.
