Gulfport plaza shopping center gets new life
Gulfport Plaza Shopping Center, struggling without an anchor since Winn-Dixie left two years ago, has a new owner and fresh tenants. A Family Dollar and Save-A-Lot grocery will share the anchor space when the center near 49th Street and 22nd Avenue S reopens after renovations. Southern Commercial Developers of Tampa bought the 45,000-square-foot plaza from Hadi Adams in March for $1.3 million. Fred Metcalf, community development director, said the city was happy to have them. "We wanted to get a grocery store," he said. A June grand opening is planned. Tenant space is available.
