Nielsen settled lawsuit from competitor

A three-year battle to loosen Nielsen Media Research's control over the television audience-measurement business is over. Clearwater-based erinMedia LLC dismissed its antitrust suit against Nielsen last week after the parties reached a confidential settlement. In 2005, founder Frank Maggio, a St. Petersburg developer and media entrepreneur, accused Nielsen of using its alleged monopoly power to quash an alternative audience-measurement system that erinMedia claimed was more accurate.
