If Tampa Bay has commuter options, will we use them?

The Tampa Bay area is pondering commuter rail lines, high-speed bus lanes, even water taxis across the bay. But area business leaders have one big question: Will their employees commuting to and from work use the multibillion-dollar network? They will if we select the right routes, said Bob Clifford, a state transportation official who spoke last week to Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce members. The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority has until July 2009 to draw up a master plan that will include new taxes for mass transit. Clifford urged the authority to focus on strategic routes to relieve congestion. Top contenders: central Pasco County to Tampa and Clearwater to Tampa. "The local portion will be substantial," Clifford said of future transit taxes. "The longer we delay, the more it will cost."

This is not a recipe for sprawl, instead it is an answer to sprawl. People from hillsborough wont be the only contributers, as a regional tax is the most possible financing method. Taking a regional approach alleviates problems produced by local plan

Have you guys looked at the proposal. It is a receipe for SPRAWL. If people from Pasco and Clearwater want it they need to pay for it. Don't try to tax Hillsborough County residents.

How about a bus system that will take you where you want to go? I cannot get from my home to work in less than an hour and a half and it would require a transfer. I'd rather take a bus but I can drive in 25-30 minutes.

"The longer we wait the more it will cost" Is that not the same story that prompted people to buy houses they knew they could not afford?
